Welcome to the website of the Cree Language Commission of Eeyou Istchee. 

The Commission is tasked with the important work of leading the development of programs and policies to ensure that the Cree language remains a language of daily life for the Cree of Eeyou Istchee (eastern James Bay).

The Cree are fortunate to still speak their language, and the Cree language remains a pillar of culture and community life. At the same time, there is an increasing awareness of the many challenges that are faced by the language. To address these challenges, the Office of the Commission was created in 2019, to help decrease these challenges before us Cree are unable to pass down the language to the future generations of Crees.
