Following the appointment of a Commissioner on Cree Language in 2020, a Coordinator was hired in 2021 to help support the efforts and work of the Commissioner. Among these tasks, the coordinator’s tasks include the developments of a strategic plan for the office.
The strategic pillars of the Cree Language Commission remain the priorities shown over the past 50 years from Eeyouch who have worked in language sharing the common goal of Cree Language preservation, and revitalization. One of the most profound documents used in identifying the direction the CLC would go is from 2018 where a Language Engagement Conference was held to strengthen the use, visibility and promotion of Iiyiyiuyimuwin.
At the CLC, our goal remains to be united effort, ensuring the inclusion of all communities in Eeyou Istchee, and especially the feedback and input of Cree families. Without the collaborations of band councils, band members, families, youth and organizations, the efforts to strengthen the language would be at a standstill.
The Eeyouch, and the Eeyou Way have always instilled pride in our cultural heritage that we work as a nation, for the nation. Future generations inspire the growth and promotion of carrying forward the traditions of Eeyouch while simultaneously ensuring current efforts remain strong, and present.
